"We decided to pay the extra bucks for the Breville Gourmet based mostly on looks. After less than one year our disappointment continues to mount. First of all the coffee is not hot enough. We routinely have to microwave our cup off coffee after it is dispensed to get to achieve the proper temperature. As if that isn't annoying enough, it now only works intermittently. We have to recycle the entire system, by unplugging and diddling with the head to get it to work. It still looks great ... but if you like to have your coffee when you want it and not when the machine decides it to give it to you, avoid this product!"

"Not worth the money

Very temperamental machine...I have to clean it all the time and descale it, this could be due to our water but still who wants to clean it every week

I have no problem with the coffee being hot, like others have stated

I do like the variety of serving choices, I use it for 8oz cups and my travel mug the most

kcups works best, but I actually bought it for the use of my own coffee and have found no brands work except Seattles best ground coffee. When using my own coffee, the brew takes a long time, is very slow, and many times get a half a cup of coffee"

"I had the 600XL Breville for almost 4 years and it recently began showing signs of terminal illness. This is really a good, long life for a small appliance that gets used so frequently. I emailed customer service and explained the symptoms and, after trying all their recommendations without success, I admitted defeat and thanked them for their time. To my great surprise, they offered me a refurbished 700XL, which arrived yesterday! It is so quiet and sports a more subtle light than the brighter blue 600XL light. I will happily enjoy my replacement for as long as it lasts. I found customer service to be polite, helpful, friendly, and responsive."

"I purchased this coffee single serve so excited for my family that each could have their favorite cup of coffee. Only to have it hardly used due to the fact the the water does not heat up hot enough to taste. I have actually boiled water and then poured it into the water container to make the water hotter. As another reviewer wrote, it's just barely over room temperature. You add milk and its luke warm. I don't drink coffee, so I didn't realize this until it was too late to return. I give it no stars, but forced to select at least one star, i will for the looks. Very disappointed for my family and will be purchasing a Kruig single serve."

"This product is good for a year or less then it will only give you half a cup. Breville will have you go through elaborate cleaning procedures that will take hours but will not work. They delay as long as possible until the warranty runs out. Check out Brevilles own website and you will see the complaints. Do not buy"

"We loved this coffee machine. When it works it is awesome. The problem is that it only works for a few months. I still might buy another one, but it has a crazy amount of issues. Now that Macys raised the price of the coffee that goes along with these machines, it has been pretty expensive to enjoy a good cup of coffee. Especially when you have to buy a new coffee maker every year."

"This device looks very nice, quietly makes exact ounces selected to brew, and all the features stated would make you think it's a top of the line product.
I consider that for the price, it should function a lot better, as the water temperature feature does not brew a hot enough cup of coffee. If you add room temperature milk, your coffee gets warm, not to mention if you add cold milk, it gets cold. You will not experience a very hot cup of JOE unless you drink it black, or heat up the milk separately.
Also, if you like strong coffee, I recommend that you do not purchase this machine. Even with the 4 oz cup size, you get a very light coffee brew, no matter how bold, or dark roasted the beans are.
I guess it's the quick brewing system that probably does not give enough time for the water temperature to really reach 192 degrees, which is the maximum temperature level.

I expected more from Breville, as nice as it looks and expensive as it is. Sorry, but I am returning my so long waited for coffee maker, because I am not pleased with having a light and cold cup of coffee."

"This machine leaves much to be expected. It cost more and it is not worth it. It will not brew. It will read BREWING on screen and no coffee. It will read OPEN HEAD, and still nothing. I gave my Keurig b70 Platinum Edition Coffee Maker away for this Piece of junk. It is not worth what I paid for it. I am not happy with waiting on hold for 20 minutes. I am not happy with having to send the unit back to Breville . I AM NOT HAPPY THAT I HAVE TO BE WITH OUT A COFFEE POT FOR OVER A WEEK !!! Please save your self some money and buy the Keurig b70 Platinum Edition. It is FAR better that this piece of junk Breville has. Please do not let the stainless steel fool you. Its Junk. Breville customer service is horrible. OVER ALL DISAPPOINTMENT. Keurig customer service is awesome and they treat you like you are a person not just a caller."

"Had a Keurig for about a year. It was LOUD. You could hear it from the second floor of the home. It finally started leaking and then making a groaning noise so out in the trash it went. Two days later we got this Breville. I honestly did not think it worked when I pressed the brew button because I was so used to the noise from the Keurig. Then the coffee came out and I was shocked. It brewed a cup of coffee without waking up the entire house. This is one quiet machine. It does require extra cleaning care as it is stainless steel but it looks fantastic with stainless steel appliances. Overall: Expensive and worth every penny!"

"I bought this as a gift for my parents 3 years ago. They LOVE it...they make several single cups of coffee a day. (tea and cocoa too!) You can either get the pods or use coffee grinds to put into the machine. It's very easy to clean and change the water filter. The pods can get expensive- but you can buy them a lot cheaper in bulk at BJ's or Costco. This machine is great! Breville is a very high end brand- excellent quality. I would highly recommmend this product."

"I bought one of these machines in November 2009 and the pump is so loud it could wake the dead! Breville does not stand behind there products and I have a machine collecting dust in my basement. The model I have is the BKC600XL the twin to this model shown. This one (700 series) is supposed to have Quiet Brew Technology. Do your shopping but better yet don't buy it at all. Breville told me my machine is supposed to be loud and vibrate, that was there solution for a machine of this caliber."

"I purchased Breville bkc700 xl from Macy's. Excellent turn-around time to receive machine.Worked great for a week.After 1 week,stopped working. Called Breville and told to send directly to them and i would receive new machine in a week.One month later,still nothing received.Numerous calls made to Breville and told out of stock and need to wait till more units arrive. Asked for specific dates and no dates are available for shipping.Have been without machine and get up 1 hour early every day to go buy Tim Horton's coffee. Nothing offerred from Breville for replacement yet. Very disappointed and find it very hard to recommend any products from this company."

"The instruction booklet for this machine has a label on the front saying not to return it to the retailer but to contact Breville USA about problems. The first week we had it, it would not make coffee when the display said "Brewing" and would spit out twice as much on the next cycle. When I phoned Breville, I spent a lengthy time on hold, then chose the option to leave my number for a rep to return my call. Two weeks later, no one has called me and we are still having trouble with the machine. When it does work, it makes good coffee but I would expect better customer service for an appliance this pricey."
