Czech vs. Germany--Beware!!!

"This is more just a "caution" for shoppers...we registered for these glasses, and were disappointed to see that some of the ones we received had bumps of glass on the base. At first, we just thought this was a defect in these glasses overall. Upon further inspection, we realized that some of the glasses were made in Germany, and some were made in the Czech Republic. The ones from Germany were by far superior--they were clearer, with a lustre at the bottom of the bowl of the glass, a much prettier Waterford stamp on the base, and no bumps. We were wondering if maybe some of the glasses had come from an outlet, but all had the Macy's "Required for Return" stamp, AND they were taken off our registry upon purchase. Bottom line: the glasses from Germany are beautiful and well worth the price. The ones from the Czech Republic were a huge disappointment. We will be returning them for replacements from Germany. I do not anticipate this being a problem; our overall experience with returning items from our registry at Macy's has been incredibly positive, and they have been extremely helpful throughout the entire registry process."

Simple but Elegant

"We received these as wedding gifts and have used them for family gatherings & parties ever since. They are not ornate, but have an elegant simplicity. I keep them displayed in a beautiful china cabinet & they do not look out of place. Some of the glasses (small white wine, champagne flute) are a bit more work to clean by hand. This is the only complaint I have, but it would be true of any brand."

They are thin

"These glasses are not what you would expect from Waterford. They are very thin. The Marquis by Waterford line is not the same quality as regular Waterford crystal. Still, if you are careful, they can still last. I have a set of four thin long-stemmed wine goblets of the same quality. 10 years...no chips. Personally, I'd rather have barware I didn't have to worry about as much. Look at Villeroy & Boch Torino for a thicker and more durable crystal glass."

"I would have to disagree with the other reviewers. I actually knocked one of mine over and it hit another one and neither chipped or broke...I was amazed, I thought one of them would have surely broke.

Of course, since they are not made of plastic or anything, you have to be careful in your use. But I LOVE them, they look so elegant and they are soo functional. They work with a fancy meal or a casual meal."

"My husband and I have quite a few of these glasses, from the oversized martinis, to the red and white wine glasses and even the water/iced tea glasses. I agree with another reviewer that they chip easily but they are very thin crystal. Also, they are much more affordable to replace than a lot of stemware out there. They are perfect for our frequent entertaining! They look lovely, and think they are extremely good quality for this price range. I find they are comparable to Riedel's line of glasses at a fraction of the cost."

"These are beautiful glasses- nothing ornate, but won't look dated in a few years, either. We have quite a few of them and my only complaint is that they chip/break fairly easily because the rims are relatively thin. But, it is crystal and they are reasonably priced, so you get what you pay for!"
