Beautiful set - but HUGE dinner plates

"I was looking for an attractive, durable, every-day dinner set. I fell totally in love with Mikasa Swirl in white. It is a beautiful set - very pretty, lovely off-white color, feels sturdy, nice shapes in the mug and bowl. LOVE IT. I brought one place setting home to try it out, along with a handful of other brands / styles. No question - Mikasa Swirl was the winner. The dinner plate looked big, so my husband tested it in our kitchen cabinet to make sure it fits - and somewhow we thought it did fit. I ordered 8 place settings and 2 extra dinner plates and side plates. So, the set arrives and I'm so excited to get rid of the old stuff and install Swirl. I unpack the first box, stack it up in the cabinet and....... the doors won't close fully :( The dinner plate is about half an inch too big on the diameter. I am devastated - they have to go back. We also put it in the dishwasher to see if it would fit. We didn't actually do a wash, but it looked like the dinner plate would block the spinning spray arm. I'm giving this set 5 stars and a "Recommend" status because it's just wonderful. Please do make sure it fits your cabinets and your dishwasher before you buy lots of place settings though!
From what I've seen I don't think I will find anything that lives up to this set.... so so so so sad."

"The Black Mikasa Swirl were a wedding gift. They are so beautiful! The black goes with everything! I only have two complaints: 1) The underside of the bowls is not glazed and feels like nails on a chalkboard, 2) There are maybe one or two small white spots on the bottom of every dinner plate - and what is HILARIOUS is that it honestly looks like Mikasa had someone take a black permanent marker and filled them in!!!! No one will ever turn your plates over and notice, but it's just funny!

They are beautiful though!"

"I love my new everyday dinnerware....the Mikasa Swirl dinner plate is large and the pieces are so stylish with the polished interior and unpolished exterior. I especially love the shape of the cereal/salad bowls. I purchased a total of 12 place settings after giving my old dishes to my son for his college apartment....and now I'm using them even when I entertain guests. I love the creamy white color and it looks great on any color tablecloth. I've done all sorts of things with different color napkins, too. Very versatile."

"I've been looking for a dinnerware set that would resemble the artistry of pottery in some way, yet be functional enough for everyday use. Mikasa's Swirl collection is just what I hoped for, and such great quality! I love the unique design of the mug and cereal bowl. The swirl pattern, smooth interior and textured exterior finish are features that add interest without visually competing with whatever is being served. That was important in my selection process. I chose Tan for a warm natural look. My first Mikasa, and definitely not my last! Planning to buy more from this collection soon!"
