"I had a rival crock pot for around 10 years, used it frequently until it gave out a couple of weeks ago. I just bought another. You have to purchase the one that can be programmed for the time you would like (2, 5, 8, 12 hr). Some of the crock pots out there work like ovens in which you dial the temperature you'd like. The good thing about those is that you can get them "turkey" sized and I was told they take less energy than the regular ovens"

Sad it broke so soon...,December 1, 2009

"The first week the handle broke. Even on low I have burnt 2 out of the 10 dinners I have made. Maybe I am not filling it with enough food and I should buy a smaller one, say 4 quart(although I am cooking for a family of 5) or set the timer for 4 hours instead of 5. I have cooked with crock pots before and I have never burned food before. Food burned on Low, wonder what High might do.
I do Love the fact that it has a timer and smaller meals can be set to warm when they are finished cooking. Excellent feature and the whole reason I bought this one to begin with."

"So, the product can cook, I will give it a good note there. However, in reading everyone elses notes I realize I am not the only one who had a problem with the lid. My lid's hinge broke, so I now just have the lid as normal, but with a broken piece hanging off. I thought I did something wrong, but after all the reviews it turns out its just a bad product. Too bad. A good brand, a bad product."

"I love the timer feature on the crockpot and use it frequently. However, the lid broke after 5 uses -- the handle came off and now I have to slide the lid off with hot mitts. I would not recommend this until the fix this issue."

"I got this as a gift to replace my old Rival crockpot that died on me, and I'm delighted with it. I have yet to use it on high setting, as I like long slow cooking settings... so I can't speak for that setting in specific, but I have use it on the low setting and can't say enough about how much I love it! "I bought this crockpot several months ago because of the timer. I LOVE this feature--However, the shoddy and cheap plastic used on the lid have both broken--I'm not able to use the hinged lid or handle on the front edge--I've not used the crockpot that often, so I wouldn't recommend it for this reason. ~Sorry!~"

"After looking for a new large slow cooker for some time now - I purchased this Rival 6-Qt. Crock Pot. I have owned a few of the previous Rival Crock Pots & have had good luck. A few because we also use them up at our cabin for the large gatherings. I love how easily it cleans up. I'd recommend using it first while at home. The crock pot was quite full & the sauce started spitting through the lid edges onto my wood floor. I KNOW I filled it too high, but, I just turned down the temp to low and all was fine. It was really handy to be able to use the attached lid. Then, when I wanted the lid off I was able to do so! It cooked evenly. I look forward to trying out the timed meals next, but, want to be here once again to verify it's working correctly... So far I am very happy with this Rival Crock Pot!"

"I bought this crock-pot, knowing the brand is usually good and knowing that we use it at least twice a week. After 2 uses the plastic handle on top broke off. Within another 6 weeks both side handles and the top handles ahve broken off. We are not rough on these units but use it now twice a week.
I have seince gotten another crok pot (and talkwith the RIVAL people) and there answer is "to send another one". After telling them I have been through (now 3) 2 of them, their answer is "so what, we have this happen frequently".
I will never buy anith Crock-Pot or RIVAL product again."
